Ingrid Sparrow PT CMPT CSCS
Ingrid became interested in physical therapy is high school ,and pursued this interest by obtaining an undergraduate degree in bilology from Carelton College (Minnesota) and a graduate degree in Physical Therapy from Hahnmann University (Philadelphia) in 1989. While in PT school she realized a successful physical therapist treats not only the current injury, but also its underlying causes. This has led her to study a wide variety of manual, exercise and movement re-education techniques, and allows her to customize her care to each patient. She has also developed a specialty in biomechanical analysis and orthotic prescription. She was awarded her Certificate of Manual Physical Therapy by the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, as well as her Certificate of Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Growing up in Anchorage, Alaska she has along history with the cold weather sports of nordic, alpine and telemark skiing, as well as ice skating. Other recreational pursuits include gardening, rollerblading, hiking, backpacking, yoga, and road biking. Ingrid is a co-owner of Sound Physical Therapy.
Brenda Matter PT OCS FAAOMPT
Brenda received her degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Puget Sound in 1981. She has worked since then in the Greater Seattle area, only leaving for a year in 1985 to travel around the world with her husband visiting Europe, N. Africa, Asia and the South Pacific. Throughout her career, she has pursued her strong interest in manual physical therapy and was awarded her CMPT (Certified Manual Physical Therapist) by the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy and was accepted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy in 2002. The American Physical Therapy Association awarded her their orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS) in 2003. Brenda has been an instructor for prenatal and post partum classes and is experienced in providing orthopedic manual therapy for women in the childbearing year. She also specializes in pelvic and women’s health physical therapy. She enjoys gardening at home and in the City of Seattle P-Patch program, hiking, travel and skiing. Brenda is a co-owner of SPT.
Chris Zang PT ATC CSCS
Chris received his degree in Physical Therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1987. Prior to this he earned a Bachelor’s at degree at West Virginia University preparing him for his certification as an Athletic Trainer. Initiallly Chris worked at Loyola College (MD) splitting time between physical therapy and athletic training duties. He volunteered with the US Figure Skating Championship 1989 and the Goodwill Games in 1990. Since then he has focused on his post graduate education for shoulder girdle biomechanics as related to shoulder impingement syndromes, lower extremity biomechanical analysis, lumbo-pelvic stabilization and orthotic prescription. He also completed the Level III coursework with North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, and he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Chris is married with three children and is active with coaching soccer. Chris is a co-owner of SPT.
Tina Volckmann PT
Tina received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1991 and her degree in Physical Therapy from Boston University in 1995. Since graduation she has worked in outpatient orthopedic settings in Woodinville and Portland where she worked with the Oregon Ballet Theater and in Mercer Island. She has been working for SPT for over four years. She is also a certified Pilates instructor and teaches private sessions in Capitol Hill two days a week and has completed her Level III NAIOMT coursework. She has a strong interest in combining manual therapy, functional stabilization and Pilates exercise in her practice in order to return patients to prior recreational and functional activities. In her free time she pursues skiing, camping and other outdoor and athletic activities. She is married with two young boys.
Tim Newton PT ATC
Tim received his undergraduate degree in psychology along with his certification as an Athletic Trainer from the University of Portland in 1989. Following graduation, he worked as an Athletic Trainer for the University of Portland for several years before leaving to travel extensively throughout Europe. Upon returning home, he established a private practice focused upon rehabilitation and sports medicine. During this time he was fortunate enough to work with an Olympic Champion and several national champion swimmers at the Puyallup Aquatic Club. He received this Masters degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Washington in 2001 and completed a two year internship and independent study with Loren Rex, an Osteopath known in the greater Seattle area. He has also completed the Level III coursework with North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy. His interests in restoring optimal movement patterns and balance has led him to approach musculoskeletal injuries from a comprehensive view integrating manual techniques, functionally based exercise prescription, biomechanical analysis and orthotic prescription. Personally he is busy pursuing hiking, running and skiing.
Ellen Butzel PT
Ellen received her undergraduate degree from Middlebury College and her physical therapy degree from the University of Washington in 1999. She has specialized training in the use of video for biomechanical gait and movement analysis, and in designing custom foot orthoses. Ellen combines functional exercise, hands on treatment and movement re-education to assist people with their rehabilitation and educates them to reduce the risk of future injury. Ellen has a broad background in physical therapy including working with young athletes. She especially enjoys working with this population on knee injury prevention and education. She also has a special interest in bicycles and bike fit. She is a committed bike commuter and enjoys Nordic and telemark skiing, hiking and playing in the outdoors with her family. She volunteers with Outdoorsforall as a ski instructor working with people with disabilities.
Alicia Chunn PT ATC
Alicia received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida along with her certification as an Athletic Trainer. In 2000 she earned her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. Her continuing education has focused primarily on incorporating manual techniques to assist her patients in achieving their functional goals. Alicia has worked primarily in orthopedic outpatient clinics in Florida, Chicago, and now Seattle. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, and camping in her free time and in addition to finishing the Chicago Marathon two times she has also backpacked extensively on the Appalachian Trail. In 2008, she worked a summer season as a Park Ranger in Alaska’s Denali National Park, and currently is enjoying living in beautiful West Seattle.
